Using the TRAK Toolroom Machining Center

TRAK Machine Tools is delighted to introduce you to the world’s first Toolroom Machining Center, the TRAK TMC.

It’s a product that only the inventors of the ProtoTRAK could have done because it's built on four decades of making ProtoTRAK CNCs ideal for working in small lot quantities.

As for the machine, it's a heavyweight. You’ll be able to take good cuts in steel and end up with superior finishes and precise tolerances. Most importantly, it can be configured to fit how you need to use it.

Use Case 1 — In The Toolroom

The TMC makes a good machine for toolroom applications, as a complement or even a replacement to the TRAK Knee Mills and Bed Mills. With Electronic Handwheels, you work manually when you want, only using the tool changer and CNC when you want. Toolroom Ops allows you to use the machine with the door open, allowing interaction with the work that a skilled machinist needs for one-of-a-kind parts.

Use Case 2 — High Mix, Low Volume

For those high mix/low volume jobs, the TMC and ProtoTRAK team up for exceptional productivity. Quick set ups for that kind of work is the key, and the TMC makes setups a breeze with the functionality in Toolroom Ops:
  • Electronic handwheels have you moving around the part naturally and make tool touch offs quick and secure.

  • Powerful graphics will simulate the program run so you can make sure you haven’t programmed something unintentionally.
  • The convenient Adaptive Toolpath and Clear Off routines will reduce cycle times for those jobs that have a lot of material removal.

In a few minutes, the job will be ready for you to turn the key to Production Ops, close the door and hit the go button.

Use Case 3 — A Learning CNC

As great as the TMC is for the expert machinist, it's also the best machine you could have for bringing along those people who are new to CNC machining.

To make it easier for your learners to program on their own, the TMC has:

  • The easy, natural ProtoTRAK programming style that people learn so quickly.
  • Defaults that you can set to the program style or for the material to give them guidance for how to make the part without you being there.
  • Photos and notes they can follow to get the setup done without constantly needing to ask for advice.
